The TIE Fighter is arguably one of the most recognized ships in the Star Wars franchise, third, in my opinion, to the Death Star and Millennium Falcon. It was often the ship of choice by the Galactic Empire because they were small, fast, and highly manueverable.
This might not be news to some fans, but did you know that the large panels on either side of the cockpit are solar panels? I didn't until recently, and I have to admire the Empire's commitment to green energy!
