Dear sweet Rory... I absolutely adored you!
He was kind, loving, and generous. He was especially generous when it came to sharing Amy Pond with the 11th Doctor. He knew she loved the Doctor, but she loved Rory more.
I thought it was going to be simple to put together a costume for my beloved Rory, but as I researched his clothes I realized that he has a lot more looks than I first believed. It was a lot of fun putting these different outfits together!
So, here you are. From his casual clothes and Centurion outfit to his mullet, watch, and nursing scrubs, and more, here is everything you need for a Rory Williams costume!
Do you live outside the United States?
Casual Clothes
Rory was almost always seen wearing casual clothes, and they truly were casual! You have a lot of leeway with the shirt and pants you wear, but make sure you complete your outfit with his sleeveless jacket. Here is a touching video tribute to Amy and Rory's lives together. Spoiler Alert - Don't watch unless you know the complete story of the Ponds.
Jacket
The one consistent piece of clothing in Rory's wardrobe was his puffy, sleeveless jacket.
Plaid Shirt
Rory absolutely loves plaid shirts! He had many and wore them often, so choose the style you like best. I could be wrong, but the shirts Rory had look flannel to me, so that's what I've gone for here.
Striped Shirt
Rory also wore many different striped polo-style shirts. Most, if not all, had short sleeves, and the stripes were always vertical, and they gave him a bit of a boyish look.
Pants
The pants Rory wore most often were jeans, but you can go with Dockers style pants if you prefer, which will work well, too.

Shoes
Rory wore a couple different types of shoes but the one that I think looks most like Rory is a style called Chukka. Chukkas are ankle high boots made of suede or smooth leather with laces.
Nurse Clothing
Rory was a nurse and sometime seen in his scrubs. Here is a video of some of Rory's best moments, including a few of him in his nursing outfit.
Scrubs
Rory wore traditional green scrubs any time he had to go into work so that would be the best color to choose if you want your Rory Williams costume to be authentic.
Shirt
Rory must have been a bit chilly in his hospital because he liked to wear a long sleeved white shirt under his scrubs.
Centurion Costume
Amy may have been the girl who waited but Rory was the man who waited 2,000 years for the woman he loved! Here is a video of Rory as The Last Centurion. The first time I watched the story of Amy Pond and her raggedy man I didn't like her because of how she treated Rory. This video shows that I was wrong, that she loved him all along.
Centurion Costume
I was unable to find an exact replica of the Centurion outfit that auton Rory wore in The Big Bang, but look for one that has a red cape, preferably one that doesn't wrap around the neckline (you'll see what I mean when you click either link below).
Helmet
Some costumes come with a helmet, but not all. If you need one, look for one that has red bristles (? I don't know what to call them) on top.
Shoes
Add a pair of Roman or gladiator sandals to this outfit.
Sword
Don't forget a sword! Rory stood by the Pandorica box protecting it while holding his sword in hand.
SWAT Team Soldier Costume
Rory was a captain of the SWAT team, head of the defense team at area 52 in The Wedding Of River Song. He was finally given the opportunity to look manly, even if he still didn't have much courage around Amy. I had a hard time finding a video that includes Rory in his Captain outfit but he's briefly shown in this one, a trailer for this episode.
Beret
Rory wore a black beret, probably made of wool.
Eye Drive Patch
Time went wrong during this storyline and many people were seen wearing an eye patch, including Rory. The patch allowed the wearer to see two times at once. I found a seller on Etsy who is selling replicas of this patch. You can attach the patch with spirit gum or fashion tape.
Military Suit
Rory's military clothing looked very much like a flight suit or the coveralls worn by people when they play paintball.
T-Shirt
You might want to wear a comfortable military green shirt under your suit, especially if you don't plan on keeping your suit zipped all the way up to your neck.
Tactical Vest
Next you need to add an military assault vest, similar to the one worn by Captain Williams. I say similar because I wasn't able to find an identical one, so have fun choosing one that you think fits the outfit. You can even wear one that has a SWAT patch on it.
Leg Holster
You will also need a gun holster that goes on your leg. It's up to you if you want it on your left or right leg, but as an FYI, Rory's was on his right (I'm guessing that Arthur Darvill is right handed).
Gun
If you have a holster you will need a gun. There are a lot of different toy guns but I like foam dart guns best for this purpose. You can shoot the "bad guys" without actually hurting them.
Knee Pads
Rory also wore protective pads on his knees as part of his military outfit. You can use these for many things other than a costume. They will protect your knees while doing activities where you want to cushion your knees, such as gardening or cleaning grout.
Boots
The final item needed for this look is a pair of combat boots, preferably black like Rory's.
Optional Accessories
Watch
Rory often wore a wrist watch. His had a black leather band, a black background, and gold edge.
Mullet
Remember when Rory had a mullet? He kept the long part in a ponytail, and Amy hated it, or so he thought until he cut off the ponytail. You can add a touch of fun to your Rory costume by wearing a mullet wig, but make sure you also add a ponytail.
